Teapot Cake

For my mom's birthday this year I made her a teapot cake! It was a perfect size for just the family and pretty quick to put together. Working with gum paste would have made it easier since then the spout would have stood on its own but I think it still turned out pretty cute. Yellow cake with vanilla/almond icing and fondant decorations. Since it's the birthday month for all my friends and family (it feels like) I'll be having at least 2 more cakes up soon :)

My Valentine's Day

I had a wonderful Valentine's Day with my amazing boy friend. I made him dinner and he made some delicious Italian bread and bought a bottle of Shingleback wine (which is named after a species of Blue Tongue Skink ^_^). Even though I'm not a big wine fan I thought it was pretty good especially with the creamy chicken and vegetable pasta I made. Very rich but very good.

 For dessert I found this amazing idea with strawberries and chocolate cupcakes. They turned out great but the alcohol took quite a while to burn and made the strawberry taste kind of gross and burnt. The effect was still awesome.

We exchanged presents (and Hunter spoiled me as always with a beautiful amethyst heart necklace) and watched Stranger Than Fiction. Thank you so much for an amazing evening Hunter <3

Valentine's Weekend!

Since Valentine's days always seems to fall in the middle of the week, Hunter and I are having ours Saturday. I made him some tasty little heart cookies as a present. They turned out really cute but the vanilla dough was a pain to pipe and my hand was really sore after. I got the recipe from this great blog. I will have more pictures after tomorrow of our V-day dinner :3

Folklore Zomibe

I made another zombie feltie today. This one is going to be a present for my mom (hope she doesn't read this before she gets it haha). I really like how she turned out but she was a pain to make >.< Her hair was the worst because those strands did not want to stay together. I hope to make some more soon. Enjoy!

Veggie Pizza

I received a new baking book from a friend when I was working at the zoo. I just now have had a chance to try some of the recipes out. I have made 2 desserts and 1 savory dish from my The Baking Bible. Last night I made a veggie pizza and it turned out delicious! I love this book except for the fact that it is made for Europeans with the measurements and the wording. I am not used to graham crackers being called "sweet biscuits" haha. I will try to have more pictures soon!

Everyone Loves Homemade Cookies!

I plan to sew a whole batch of these cuties before the end of the month to hopefully raise some Christmas present money :) I have to say the bigger on is my favorite and I think I will make more of him. I have so many smaller scraps left that I will have to think of some little plushies to make as well. Maybe some cat toy sized cookies :3 

Glücklich Martinstag!

November 11th is the day that German children celebrate Saint Martin. This holiday is a reminder to be kind to one another. Since I am a German major, I went and helped my German teachers and their children make lanterns (as well as my own). We then lit our lanterns and walked around ECU campus singing German songs. It was a lot of fun even though it was cold and I'm glad I was able to experience it. For more info on the holiday here is a site explaining it :)
